Flowers actinomorphic or slightly zygomorphic, bisexual, 5-merous, hypogynous, large, showy, rose purple, 9.5-12 cm long and 10-11 cm across; bracts +/- ovate, ca. 1.3 cm x 0.7 cm, sparsely pubescent outside, pale green; pedicels ca.10 mm long, pubescent. Sepals 5, less commonly 3 or 4, free, unequal, 1.7-2.3 cm x 0.3-1 cm, lanceolate-ovate, acuminate, sparsely pubescent outside. Corolla rose purple, more intense in throat, 6-8 cm long; proximal most part narrow tubular, cylindrical, ca. 3.5 cm long, glabrous; distal half (throat) funnelform, 3-4.5 cm x 3.5 cm, dark purple within, its lower narrow part with fringed scales forming a cone above stamens; limb 10-11 cm across, lobes 5, orbicular-rotundate, ca. 4 cm x 5-6 cm, glabrous, overlapping to left. Stamens 5, inserted in the throat at junction with corolla tube; anthers ca. 5 mm long, narrowly triangular, acuminate, base shortly sagittate; filaments very short; stamens covered with fringed scales above and pilose with white hairs below filaments in cylindrical tube; anthers enclose pistil head. Disc thick, annular, 5-lobed. Carpels 2, syncarpous; ovary ovoid, ca. 2 mm x 1.5 mm, unilocular with 2 parietal placentas, ovules numerous; style filiform, ca. 3 cm long; pistil head thick, hour-glass-shaped, with a membranous reflexed rim, apex conical, 2-lobed.
